Recovering a blown out sky

BeforeMJ2.jpg AfterMJ2.jpg

Lumi2.png The picture on top was taken on a bright afternoon in Belur India. The RAW image was taken using Nikon Coolpix 8800 at a shutter speed of 1/125 sec and aperture f/3. It can be seen that the sky in the original picture is blown out and detracts from an otherwise good picture. This can be corrected using Adobe Lightroom . The Develop module of Lightroom has an adjustment palette called HSL/color/Greyscale. HSL stands for hue/saturation/ Luminance. Luminance is a brightening feature for various colors. In the instant case I used the Blue color Luminance and reduced the slider to -56. This correction of using the Blue slider works like using a polarizing filter in actual photography. Pushing the slider to the negative ranges reduces the brightness of the color. The corrected picture is the one below.
